Course Summary

This course will introduce you to a variety of experiences that explore a range of fine art media, processes and techniques.

You will explore the use of drawing for different purposes, using a variety of methods and media on a variety of scales.

You will use sketchbooks to underpin your work where appropriate. You will explore relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to a range of art, craft and design, from the past and from recent times, including European and nonEuropean examples.

You will work in one or more area(s) of Fine art, such as drawing and painting, mixedmedia, including collage and assemblage, sculpture, ceramics, installation, printmaking (relief, intaglio, screen processes and lithography) and moving image and photography.


Course Details


The course consists of two units both of which are assessed internally and moderated externally.

Unit Unit 1 (M)

Title - Portfolio that shows development of understanding and skills.

Weighting 60%

Unit Unit 2 (M)

Title - Externally set assignment, with preparatory period from February

Weighting 40%

Assessment Non-exam assessment over 15 hours,

Internally assessed and externally moderated (60%)

Nonexam assessment over 15 hours, internally assessed and externally moderated (40%)

Entry requirements

GCSE at Grade 5+ or BTEC/NCFE at Merit+ in an artistic discipline, as well as Grade 5 in GCSE English. Candidates without a Level 2 qualification in an artistic discipline will be considered through interview.
