This is a two year course which will result in a single A Level. This can be taken in a combination with other level 3 courses (including A level and vocational).

If taken, students will need to choose two other level 3 qualifications and will be requested to do our mandatory enrichment programme. This programme covers a range of different employment skills, other qualifications and experiences that students can use for their post 18 destinations including the Extended Project Qualification (useful for additional UCAS points and developing research skills).

2. Cells
3. Organisms exchange substances with their environment
4. Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms
5. Energy transfers in and between organisms
6. Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments
7. Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems
8. The control of gene expression

100% Examination

All students taking A level science will have to complete 12 required practicals in each science subject. Students will be assessed on a range of skills and competencies and will be awarded a pass or fail for these at the end of year 13. Whilst obtaining the practical endorsement will have no effect on the overall grade, universities have informed the exam boards that any student wishing to study science at university will need to pass the practical component of the course. The content and skills covered in the practicals will also be examined in the written papers and so students will need to make sure that they complete all required practicals.

6 in GCSE biology or 6 6 in combined science and grade 5 in English GCSE are required.

A Level permits entry into many top universities and other higher educational institutions. Courses to consider are medicine, biochemistry, zoology, physiotherapy, nursing, dentistry, scientific research, conservation and teaching.

A Level biology is highly regarded by employers and can lead into many professions since it is classified as a 'facilitating subject'.
