Course Summary

This course brings together the knowledge and understanding of concepts with in science with the practical skills that are valued in further education and industry

Applied science develops the sills used in planning, carrying out investigations, analysing data, evaluating the results and method to make improvements. You will need to be able to write reports to address the assignment criteria and clearly communicate your work

You will also gain valuable research skills and the ability to manage your timer effectively

Year 12 Computer Systems – CPU and Binary Representation Computer Systems – OS and Memory Computational Thinking Algorithms Programming and Problem solving Algorithms - OOP (java) Organisational applications of computing

Year 13 Computer systems revisited Network – Components and application Algorithms Revisited Examination preparations IB Exams


How will it be delivered and assessed?

2 external exams and 2 written coursework units

Both exams MUST be passed to complete the course

Grades are awarded at Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction Plus Unit 1 Unit 2 Unit 3 Unit 9

3 written external exams (Biology, Chemistry & Physics) these usually take place in May of year 12

4 written assignments

Usually completed from term 2 to term 6 in year 13

3 hour Practical exam followed by a 90 min written exam based on the practical experiment

Usually takes place in term 3 of yr13

4 Written assignments completed over terms 4-6 in yr12

Entry requirements

General entry requirements:

International Baccalaureate Diploma: 6 x grade 6 or above, including Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent)

International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme: 5 x grade 5 or above, including Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent)
