BTEC Applied Science

• Level 2 Pathway - For students who still need to resit their Mathematics and English Language GCSE's to gain a Grade 4 alongside Level 2 BTECs.
  
• Level 3 Vocational - For students who have gained a grade 4 in their Mathematics and English Language OR English Literature.
• IBCP Programme - For students gaining 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 and above including Mathematics and English Language.
• Sports Academies (Basketball/Football) - For students wishing to pursue Sport professionally alongside their studies. The academy must be taken in addition to one of the other three pathways on offer.

Number of subjects required:

• Level 3 Pathway - Please select three Level 3 courses (BTEC or RSL)
• IBCP Pathway - Please select two IB Diploma courses and two Level 3 Vocational courses (BTEC or RSL)

BTEC National Foundation Diploma (equivalent to 1.5 A level)

Students studying this course need to be well organised, good at working to deadlines and be interested in Science.

BTEC Nationals are widely recognised by industry and higher education as the signature vocational qualification at Level 3. They provide progression to the workplace either directly or via study at a higher level.

Today’s BTEC Nationals are demanding, as you would expect of the most respected applied learning qualification in the UK. You will have to complete a range of units, be organised, take some assessments that we will set and mark, and keep a portfolio of your assignments. But you can feel proud to achieve a BTEC because, whatever your plans in life – whether you decide to study further, go on to work or an apprenticeship, or set up your own business – your BTEC National will be your passport to success in the next stage of your life.

There are 4 mandatory Units:

Principles and Applications of Science 1- assessed by written exam, set and marked externally

Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques- assignment based, set and marked internally

Science Investigation Skills- Task set externally and externally marked

Laboratory Techniques and their Application- assignment based, set and marked internally

Two Optional Units:

Physiology of Human Body Systems- assignment based, set and marked internally

Human Regulation and Reproduction- assignment based, set and marked internally

External written exam, internally set and assessed assignments, practical external assessment

Grade 4 or above at GCSE Science, Core and/or Additional Science

plus 4+ in English and Maths GCSE

Medical Lab scientist, Science degree at University, research scientist, Apprenticeships
