Course Summary

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business is designed for students who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the business sector. Students are not required to have studied Business at GCSE level prior to this course, however, it would be advantageous.

Course Details

The course consists of four units: Exploring Business, Developing a Marketing Campaign, Personal and Business Finance and Human Resources. These units give students a well-rounded overview of the business context. The course presents the opportunity to compare a range of businesses and helps students develop research, analytical and evaluative skills.

There are opportunities during the teaching and learning phase to give learners practice in developing employability skills in the following three main categories:

  • cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, use systems and technology
  • interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing
  • intrapersonal skills: self-management

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business is assessed through a combination of coursework and externally assessed units.

Entry requirements

General Sixth Form Entry Requirement. 5 in English would give students a distinct advantage.
