Entry Requirements: - Our Sixth Form entry requirements are five GCSEs at Grade 4 and above for the 'A' Level Pathway (in addition to some individual subject entry requirements) and 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 and above for the Vocational (BTEC) Pathway. The course information gives specific details of course content and entry requirements. Please also refer to the Sixth Form Prospectus for the specific entry requirements for the chosen subjects.

Students need to select the equivalent of 3 A Levels or more. (Triple BTEC counts as 3, Double BTEC counts as 2). Subjects are grouped into option blocks, please be aware that not all combinations are possible.

In addition to academic requirements stated above a place will be dependent on the receipt of a satisfactory school reference.

Course Summary

A BTEC National Extended Certificate is a level 3 qualification that will provide a vocational approach to studying Business. Through analysing real businesses and applying knowledge to ‘real life’ scenarios, all students will have the opportunity to learn a huge variety of skills that will form a strong basis for them to either use for their progression into university or into the world of business. This qualification is equivalent to one A Level.


Course Details

The BTEC National Extended Certificate is comprised of 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.

Mandatory content (83%). External assessment (58%).

Year 1

Candidates will cover: Exploring business , Personal and Business Finance (External examination)

Year 2

Candidates will cover a further compulsory unit and one optional unit:
Developing a marketing campaign (Controlled assessment), Recruitment and selection process

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Candidates will complete two internally assessed units and two externally assessed units.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade 4 or above and Grade 3 or above in English Language and Maths

It is our aim in the Business department to ensure we provide every student with the tools they will need to step into a University course or pursue a specific career. This level 3 qualification will provide the vehicle necessary to achieve this. If you decide to go to university or college you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as:
