Entry Requirements - For entry into year 12 to begin A Level and/or vocational courses, students must meet the minimum requirements in English and Mathematics (grade 4), however most courses require significantly higher grades in certain other GCSE subjects to access them.

Students are required to study a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 subjects.
Course Summary
The BTEC National Diploma in Sport is an applied general qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and gives the option to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the sport sector. The qualification is equivalent to two A Level.
Skills Acquired
This course is designed to develop the technical skills and personal qualities essential for career development in sport specific employment or higher education. We aim to provide students with an interesting programme that is both intellectually stimulating and challenging. The course will be delivered via tutorials, laboratory work, visits and practical sessions. Students will need to work independently and take responsibility for their own learning.
Students Suited To The Course
Students with a love for sport, an enterprising mind and a keen interest in how businesses operate within the leisure industry. Those studying BTEC Sport will be encouraged to develop skills and behaviours such as teamwork, leadership, performance analysis, resilience, evaluation, analysis and synthesising concepts.
What Other Subjects It Combines Well With
BTEC Sport and is very broad and can be combined with many subjects. Students looking to continue the subject at university should think about combining it with subjects such as Biology, Business Studies, IT, Psychology or Sociology.
Other opportunities
Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of specialised study visits, guest speakers, residential experiences and a range of practical activities to compliment your programme of study. We will also encourage students to gain work-based and volunteering experience in the local community.

Nine units which are mandatory.
Unit content
Students will study nine different topics:
Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology
Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being
Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry.
Unit 4: Sports Leadership
Unit 5: Application of Fitness Testing
Unit 6: Sports Psychology
Unit 22: Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry
Unit 23: Skill Acquisition in Sport
Unit 24: Sports Performance Analysis
3 of these are completed by external assessments via examination and six are completed as internal coursework

All of the internal units of work, will be assessed using a variety of methods, including presentations, videos and written coursework.
Entry requirements
GCSE grade 4 in English and grade 4 in Biology (Single Science) or 4-4 in the Biology component of Combined Science and a applicant's should have a keen interest in sport and ideally already be a sports performer themselves.
