Pathways Offered:
  • Level 2 Pathway - For students who still need to resit their Mathematics and English Language GCSE's to gain a Grade 4 alongside Level 2 BTECs.
  • Level 3 Vocational - For students who have gained a grade 4 in their Mathematics and English Language OR English Literature.
  • IBCP Programme - For students gaining 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 and above including Mathematics and English Language.
  • Sports Academies (Basketball/Football) - For students wishing to pursue Sport professionally alongside their studies. The academy must be taken in addition to one of the other three pathways on offer.

Number of subjects required:

  • Level 3 Pathway - Please select three Level 3 courses (BTEC or RSL)
  • IBCP Pathway - Please select two IB Diploma courses and two Level 3 Vocational courses (BTEC or RSL)

Course Summary

BTEC National Extended Certificate in Engineering - equivalent to 1 A Level.

In this course, you will follow a variety of units addressing both the fundamentals of working in an engineering workplace and taster units covering the many disciplines of Engineering.

Course Details

Units are:

Unit 1: Engineering Principles – mainly mathematics and engineering theory.

Unit 2: Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team - exploring how processes are undertaken by teams to create engineered products.

Unit 3: Engineering Product Design and Manufacture - exploring engineering product design and manufacturing processes.

Unit 19: Electronic Devices and Circuits - exploring the operation of electronic devices and their uses in circuits through simulation and practical exercises to build and test physical analogue and digital circuits (Approximately 40% practical work).

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Unit 1 = 2 hour written exam, externally assessed.

Unit 2 = three internally assessed assignments.

Unit 3 = 11 hour supervised design task, externally assessed.

Unit 19 = three internally assessed assignments.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics, and a minimum of a Level 2 Pass in BTEC Engineering or a minimum of a grade 5 in a DT qualification.
