Course Summary
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology – equivalent to 1 A level
This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT.
Course Details
For this qualification learners must achieve four units. Two of these are externally assessed, with the other two being internally assessed.
The styles of external assessment used for this qualification are: set tasks–learners take the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task.

The objective of this qualification is to give learners the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in data management and social media in business. This will enable learners to progress to further study in the IT sector, or other sectors.

Entry requirements
Students are required to have achieved five qualifications grade 4 or above at GCSE, with a 4+ in GCSE English Language or Maths.
It is an advantage to have a Level 2 qualification at GCSE level in ICT or Computing.

The qualification gives learners the opportunity to progress to a degree in an IT discipline or a degree where IT related skills and knowledge may be advantageous.
This qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements for many relevant courses.
