Entry Requirements: - Our Sixth Form entry requirements are five GCSEs at Grade 4 and above for the 'A' Level Pathway (in addition to some individual subject entry requirements) and 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 and above for the Vocational (BTEC) Pathway. The course information gives specific details of course content and entry requirements. Please also refer to the Sixth Form Prospectus for the specific entry requirements for the chosen subjects.

Students need to select the equivalent of 3 A Levels or more. (Triple BTEC counts as 3, Double BTEC counts as 2). Subjects are grouped into option blocks, please be aware that not all combinations are possible.

In addition to academic requirements stated above a place will be dependent on the receipt of a satisfactory school reference.

Course Summary

Step into the dynamic world of Information Communication Technology, where innovation meets real-world application. Our ICT course equips students with essential skills for the digital age, combining technical expertise with problem-solving and creativity.

Students will have the opportunity to acquire the essential knowledge and tools for the world of work by developing transferable skills such as planning, research and analysis, working with others and effective communication.

BTEC IT Level 3 SINGLE Award is the equivalent of 1 A Level.

Course Details

You will learn about:

Information Technology Systems – Understand how IT underpins modern organisations, from hardware and software to networks and data management.

Cyber Security and Incident Management – Learn how to protect systems and data, respond to threats, and manage security incidents in an increasingly connected world.

Website Development – Design and build engaging, functional websites using industry-standard tools and techniques.

Relational Database Development – Master the art of structuring, managing, and querying data to support decision-making and business operations.


Activities

Students will have the opportunity to visit businesses in the local area to use as case study examples in their work as well as a number of educational trips organised through the department.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Examination arrangements
You will be assessed through this qualification by producing several pieces of evidence that will be documented in a portfolio. You will also sit three external assessments, one of which will be a written examination and two that will be controlled assessments.

You are expected to:
· Carry out some independent research using the internet and other sources and present this in a suitable format.
· Be able to master a wide range of software packages and use them appropriately.
· Design Computer Interfaces to provide efficient and accurate data entry and use of IT systems.
· Design, produce and publish a website of your choice to include multimedia and interactive components.
· Present evidence of your work in a portfolio

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including Grade 3 in Maths

Please note that Core Maths (1 year course) would be a beneficial addition to this subject (where Mathematics A Level is not studied) as it will aid the mathematical elements of the course.
