Course Summary

These are exciting courses which will give you a background into the world of business and will provide plenty of opportunities to look at businesses first hand. This pathway is a vocational based approach to learning with emphasis on practical based activities underpinned by core business theories.

These courses will give you a background into the world of business and will provide plenty of opportunities to look at businesses first hand. Assessment is a mixture of coursework and external exams. The coursework is collected using assignments built around scenarios. They will include report writing, role plays, interviews, business letters and presentations. The final grade is given in a Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* in line with BTEC guidelines.

The Diploma is designed to be the part of a 16 – 19 study programme. This programme may include other BTEC Nationals or A Levels to support progression to higher education courses in business areas before entering employment. This qualification can also be used to progress to Higher Apprenticeships.


Course Details

The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the business sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in business-related subjects. It is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Two exams in Developing a Marketing Campaign and Personal and Business finance and two coursework units on Understanding Business and Recruitment and Selection.

Entry requirements

Merit in BTEC or grade 5 in GCSE business. Students do not have to have studied business at KS4 but will need a grade 5 in GCSE English and GCSE maths.
