Course Details

Creative Media Production is a two-year course which provides a comprehensive introduction to the study of creative digital media products. You will develop an understanding of the media industry through analysing media representations and pitching and producing media projects. The course is designed for those of you who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the Media Industries, as part of a programme of study alongside other BTECs or A levels. The BTEC is both examination and coursework based with four units designed to cover a wide range of academic and vocational skills. You will research and analyse the language of Media with a strong focus on media key concepts. This knowledge constructs your pre-production planning for a professionally filmed final production in year two. You will learn industry-standard editing techniques and research the development of a genre which will form the basis of your final script. The course acts as a thorough introduction to the most important aspects of the media and the various career opportunities in this (and related) fields. If you want to continue with Media Studies in higher education, you will find a great number of degrees and other similar courses available. Careers in the Media do not come easy; it is expected that you have a wide experience of working on media productions for a wide variety of institutions (educational and professional). If you are dedicated and hardworking, your academic and vocational experience could lead them into a career in broadcasting, film, radio, advertising, marketing, music production, multimedia production or journalism.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course consists of a combination of external and internal assessment, including examination, commissioned work under supervision and synoptic assessment.
