Course Summary

A-level Chinese has been developed to inspire all students who have an appreciation of the language, literature, film and culture of the Chinese-speaking world.

Having been designed as a motivating course of study, A-level Chinese will enable our students to develop an advanced level knowledge and understanding of the Chinese language, the culture of China and other Chinese-speaking countries, as well as practical and valuable language and transferable study skills.

Course Details

A-level Chinese consists of three externally-examined papers.

Paper 1: Listening, reading and translation

Paper 2: Written response to works and translation

The works will be either two literary texts, or one literary text and one film.

Paper 3: Speaking conducted internally and externally assessed

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above and a minimum of a grade 7 in GCSE Chinese.
