Entry Requirements: - Admission to courses - This is based on your needs and staff advice, but you should be aware of these points: 1. You will need to obtain a minimum of six GCSE passes at Level 5 or above including Mathematics and English (a minimum of a grade 5 in the reformed GCSE qualifications in English and Mathematics) and grades 9-6 in their preferred A-Level subjects or nearest equivalents. 2. Subjects have clear entry requirements. You will find these under the course details or from Subject Heads.

Course Summary
The skills developed through the study of maths are in high demand from employers and universities. In
addition to developing the ability to solve problems and think logically, the study of maths provides
opportunities to develop team working skills, resilience, effective communication of complex ideas and the
ability to use your own initiative.
Core Maths is a level 3 qualification, equivalent in size to an AS Level qualification. It is designed for students
who have passed GCSE Maths at grade 4 and above and who want to keep their valuable maths skills up to date
in preparation for employment or university, but who are not planning on studying AS/A Level Mathematics.
Core Maths attracts up to 20 UCAS points, which can help to achieve the entry requirements for entry to an
undergraduate degree course.

To enable a student to acquire further mathematical knowledge essential to Higher Education.
To develop the understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence
and fosters enjoyment.

Assessment is by externally assessed examination. There is no coursework content for this qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To be accepted on these courses a student should have at least 5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 5 (or equivalent). Due to the mathematical content of the course, we recommend having gained a grade 5 In GCSE Mathematics or above.
