Course Details

Drama is a creative and collaborative subject. Our approach is practical and students get many opportunities to perform, explore texts and create texts. We study all aspects of theatre from acting, directing, costume, design, lighting and sound. Visiting live theatre productions is a necessary part of the course.

The qualification is divided into three components:

Component 1 – Devising:

In this component students develop their creative and exploratory skills to devise an original performance. They work in groups to develop a piece inspired by a given stimuli using a specific style. The final performance is accompanied by a written portfolio worth 40% of the total grade.

Component 2 – Text in Performance:

Students are required to perform a group piece from a chosen text and a monologue or duologue from a contrasting text worth 20% of the total grade.

Component 3 – Theatre Makers in Practice:

In this component students evaluate a live performance and they study two performance texts. One is studied as a ‘page to stage’ realisation and the other is focused on interpreting the play in the light of a particular practitioner. This is worth 40% of the total grade.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
