Course Summary
Why study this subject?
The study of economics will help students develop an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions that effect everyday life. They will also develop a multitude of skills, including analytical and quantitative skills in selecting, interpreting and using appropriate data from a range of sources, as well as developing a critical approach to economic models of enquiry and recognising the limitations of economic models.
Studying economics will help you develop transferable skills that will prepare you for studying at university or moving into the world of work. These include skills in data interpretation and essay writing. Suitable higher education courses include: economics degrees or degrees in applied economics such as environmental economics, labour economics, public sector economics or monetary economics. Economics students can follow a wide range of careers in industry, commerce, finance and the public sector.
