Course Summary

This course is a 2 year linear A Level course with exams at the end of Year 13

Course Details

In Year 12 you will learn about the basic economic problem, the forces of demand and supply and how prices are determined. We will also explore together why the market system doesn’t always work well, by examining problems such as pollution. Also in Year 12 you will study the national UK economy and examine issues such as economic growth, inflation, unemployment and the balance of payments. You will evaluate the role of the government and what they can do to manipulate the economy.

In Year 13 you will continue your transformation into an economist by studying the global economy, examining patterns of international trade, the credit crunch and looking at the UK’s place in the world in economic terms. Also in Year 13 you will look in detail at how firms operate, exploring various different market structures from brewing to supermarkets to pig farming. You will discover just how much this matters to the supposedly all-powerful consumer. In each section of the course, real-world examples from your own personal experience will be used to help you to understand and progress in your learning. Economics can be linked to everything about your life in some way. If you choose this subject, it will reshape your view of the world and enable you to understand all sorts of things the majority of people do not.
