Course Summary

THIS COURSE ALLOWS STUDENTS TO STUDY A WIDE RANGE OF TEXTS AND GENRES ACROSS TIME AND ENCOURAGES DEEPER THINKING SKILLS AND WRITTEN DEBATE.

Course Details

Unit 1- Drama - Tragedy 30%

• Othello (Shakespeare) and critical theory

• A Streetcar Named Desire (Tennessee Williams)


Unit 2 -Prose- Science and Society 20%

• A Handmaid’s Tale (Margaret Atwood)

• Frankenstein (Mary Shelley)


Unit 3- Poetry - 30%

• a selection of post-2000 specified poetry (anthology provided)

• Romantic poetry


Unit 4 - The NEA (coursework) 20%

• One independent extended comparative essay comparing two texts and linking to feminist critical theory.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This two-year A Level course is assessed over two written exams and one independent project.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE or equivalent grade 4 or above, including a grade 5 in English Language and English Literature.
