Course Summary
This course involves studying a range of heritage and contemporary texts from the English literary canon, including poetry, prose and plays.
Course Details
Students will learn how to form a debate about their reading in a concise manner, blending their understanding of authorial methods, contextual factors and genres. Two genres are studied: tragedy and crime.
1. Aspects of Tragedy;
2. Elements of Crime Writing;
3. Theory and Independence.
Students develop skills of blending understanding of authorial methods, context and genre through written debate.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
This two-year A Level course is assessed over two written exams and one independent project.
Entry requirements
5 GCSE grades at 4 or above, including a grade 4 in both English Language and English Literature.
Your next steps...
Students can progress onto university to study English Literature in greater depth, or courses such as creative writing. English Literature is one of those A Levels that is held in very high esteem by all universities and employers.
