Entry Requirements: - Three Grade 4s and specific to subjects.

Please add three Level 3 courses to your application. These can be a combination of A-Levels, BTEC AAQs or BTEC Extended Certificates. Core Maths must be an additional fourth subject.
Course Summary
Students who enjoy a multi-disciplinary approach to learning and have a keen interest in the sustainability of our planet will find this specification engaging and thought provoking. Popular topics include bio-physical environment, energy resources, pollution, circular economy and sustainability. Real life case studies are covered in the teaching, making this qualification very relevant to today’s world. The assessment structure is straightforward with a mixture of question styles, so that students have the best opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. This is a great accompaniment to AAQ Applied Science and develops key skills including communication, teamwork and critical thinking.
Course Details
COURSE CONTENT:
1. The Living Environment
The interaction of living organisms with each other and their abiotic environment. Understanding how this can inform decisions that lead to sustainable human activities.
2. The Physical Environment
Understanding how anthropogenic activities are inter-connected with physical processes. Formulating management strategies and sustainable activities.
3. Energy resources
The importance of energy resources in both past and future developments in society and the impact of future energy supply problems.
4. Pollution
Understanding how the properties of materials and energy forms interact to result in environmental change.
5. Biological resources
Understanding of the challenge posed by the need to provide food and forest resources for a growing human population.
6. Sustainability
All topics are used to develop a holistic understanding of sustainability and the circular economy.
7. Research Methods
Understanding principles of scientific methodology.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
This course is 100% exam based, with two 3-hour exams, each worth 50% of the total grade. Both of these exams will be sat at the end of Year 13.
Entry requirements
Two grade 5’s in either Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a 5/5 in Combined Science.

WHERE NEXT?
This qualification prepares pupils for a range of higher education courses and job roles related to, but not limited to, the Science sector. It provides progression to University, Apprenticeships or Employment in modern disciplines related to the environment and conservation. As well as demonstrating transferable skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and analysis.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
This qualification can lead to employment within laboratory settings, nature and conservation field work, and the sustainability sector. This is a good, well-rounded Science based A level, building both knowledge and skills.
