Level 3 - 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including English and Mathematics.

Transition - 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher. Either English or Mathematics must be at a grade 4.

Course Summary

Why study this subject?

This course offers a comprehensive introduction and exploration of performance and musical theatre in the form of practical workshops and skills development. You will regularly have the opportunity to work on productions, student devised work or showcases.

This is a practical, work-related course, requiring imagination, sensitivity and the ability to get on well with others. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

Units that will be studied

The course comprises of four units:
• Unit 1: Investigating practitioners’ work
• Unit 2: Developing skills and techniques for live performance
• Unit 3: Group performance workshop
• Optional unit from options including units based in dance, music and drama

Unit 1 Externally set and marked task 25%
Unit 2 Internally assessed task 25%
Unit 3 Externally set and marked task 33.3%
Optional Unit Internally assessed task 16.7%

Entry requirements

STS Sixth Form offers a broad range of A Level and Applied general qualifications that will prepare you for university or employment. To access this route, you will need to have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths; however, some subjects have specific entry criteria. You will study a programme that can be tailored to meet your interests and future aspirations to give you the best chance of academic success. This programme is a two-year linear course. To study four level 3 courses, you must have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 7 or above. All courses are subject to change and are not set in stone.

Additional Entry Requirements

An arts subject at grade 4 or above is preferred.


Your next steps...

It is normal for students to progress from there on to Higher Education degrees in Drama, Performing Arts or Teaching. This course can also offer direct routes into employment within the performance industry.
