The EPQ is part of the school next steps enrichment programme. Students will research a topic of interest and produce either a 5000-word report or an artefact which answers a question they have developed. This qualification is equivalent to 50% of an A-level, is graded from A*-G and carries scaled UCAS points. The project is highly respected by Universities as it shows a learners independence and enthusiasm outside of the curriculum. A student will develop their referencing skills and also their ability to conduct academic research both of which are vital for University.

The project relies heavily on independent work but learns will be supported with one lesson in their timetable to meet with their supervisor and be taught vital skills. Students will cover topics on referencing, plagiarism, research in different media and presentation skills. The project concludes with students giving a presentation to staff and peers about their research findings.

Assessment of written report, log book and presentation.

A grade 4 or above in English at GCSE either language or literature.
