Entry Requirements: - Offers to join Mascalls Academy Sixth Form are conditional upon meeting specific entry requirements for your chosen subjects, and as a minimum, achieving at least 5 GCSE's at level 5 or above, including English and Maths.

An understanding of food science and nutrition is relevant to many industries and job roles. Care providers and

nutritionists in hospitals use this knowledge, as do sports coaches and fitness instructors.

You will complete three units: two mandatory and one optional, over the two years:

Meeting the nutritional needs of specific groups,

Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat,

Experimenting to Solve Food Production OR

Current Issues in Food Science and Nutrition.

You will experience on–going practical sessions, to gain a wide range of high level skills to produce quality food items to meet the needs of individuals.

1 written examination in year 12 and 3 coursework assignments over the two years. These assignments are set by the the exam board.

Level 6 and above in Food and Nutrition

Level 2 merit or above in Hospitality and Catering

Level 5 in science (subject to teacher)

Careers include: Care Providers, Nutritionists, Sports

Coaches, Fitness Instructors. Hotels and Restaurants,

Animal Nutritionist, Food Technologist, Nutritional

Therapist, Food Product/Process Development,

Toxicologist, Food Teacher, Dietician and Nursing.
