- All correspondence between learners and the school after an application is made will be via Applicaa.

- All applicants (internal and external) will be invited in for a 1-1 guidance meeting.

- Those who have a successful guidance meeting will be offered a place to study at St John's Sixth Form from September 2026.

What is the Foundation Pathway?

This programme is ideal for students who wish to continue their education in a school environment but do not meet the entry requirements for Level 3 study; it is also suitable for those wishing to enter employment working with members of the public, providing a foundation to Level 3 programmes, apprenticeships or employment.

Students study GCSE English and/or Maths alongside a Level 2 BTEC course in Public Services, a Level 2 BTEC course in Finance and a competency ICT qualification (Princes Trust). BTEC courses require students to pass all units some of which are externally examined units. Students will follow a bespoke religious education and PSHE programme which, unlike the Level 2 BTEC options, are not examined but all students are still expected to attend.

Internal candidates – 95% + attendance and a positive A2L

External candidates – 95% + attendance and a Head of Year reference

Students can continue to study in the sixth form following Level 3 courses or can enter further education, apprenticeships or employment.
