Foundation/Level 2 Pathway

This one-year course is designed for students who wish to continue their education at St Simon Stock Catholic School, but who do not meet the entry requirements for Level 3 qualifications.

Students will continue to study GCSE English and/or Mathematics alongside a Level 2 BTEC qualification in Health and Social Care and Creative Digital Media. The BTEC qualifications require students to complete both internally and externally assessed units and these qualifications will be the equivalent of 2 GCSE passes. In addition to this, students are expected to attend the lessons included in the extended curriculum which are compulsory for all Sixth Form students.

Exam and assessments

Internal Candidates: To attend a meeting with the Assistant Headteacher i/c of Sixth Form, have a good attendance record and a positive attitude to learning record in year 11.

External Candidates: To attend a meeting with the Assistant Headteacher i/c of Sixth Form, have a good attendance record and a positive attitude to learning record in year 11 (verified by your current Head of Year).

For students who take the Foundation Year, it is hoped that they will gain the qualifications to then apply for the Level 3 courses at St Simon Stock Catholic School Sixth Form or have the qualifications to study elsewhere. Therefore, enabling them to continue with their education or apply for apprenticeships or employment.
