Entry Requirements: - Admission to Towers Sixth Form to study A levels or BTEC equivalent will be awarded on the basis of GCSE performance. Each subject has its own entry requirements.

Studying Functional Skills can give you a good grounding in all the basic requirements of English. It will build your confidence in basic English skills which you can then use as a stepping stone to GCSE English Language and other courses.

There are three components to this qualification:

• Speaking and Listening – Individual Presentation and Group discussion

• Writing Paper.

• Reading Paper

Grade 1 or 2 in GCSE English Language.

International students should be able to be able to speak, read and write English to access this course.

A pass at Level 2 is equivalent to GCSE. English is at the core of our comprehension and communication with one another. It enables us to support, challenge or even create new ideas and perspectives and acts as a bridge across time, culture and class - connecting us all to the wider human experience.

English Language equips students with a huge range of imperative workplace skills:

• Clarity and concision of written and spoken communication

• The ability to confidently modify and structure key forms of writing such as letters, speeches etc.

• The ability to decode and comprehend unfamiliar texts and vocabulary

• An awareness of language manipulation and persuasion

English Language is a key requirement for a huge range of career pathways who may not consider you without passing an English Language Course. It is ideal for many employers to gauge your aptitude in written and spoken communication before they ever meet you. Many of the practical skills taught are ideal for working life.
