Course Summary
Students taking Further Mathematics A level follow our 'Double Maths' course.
This means that:
- in Y12 they study all of the content for the Maths A level
- in Y13 they study the content for the Further Maths A level
- at the end of Y13 they take all of the exams for both Maths A level and Further Maths A level
- they therefore have twice as many lessons as any other A level class (8 a week in Year 12) and twice as much maths work to do out of lessons
- Double Maths counts as two subjects in our option blocks
Double Maths is therefore a demanding route to follow, requiring both a high level of mathematical ability and the willingness to work hard and at a fast pace both in and out of lessons. It is, however, a very valuable pair of qualifications to pursue, and anyone considering applying to study Maths, Physics, Engineering, or Economics at a competitive university should strongly consider this option.
We have a very experienced and able team of teachers on the Double Maths course, and they can provide additional support for Oxbridge entrance tests in Maths and related subjects as well as teaching the A level courses to a very high standard.
