Course Summary
When studying A-level Geography, you will need to have a genuine interest in how natural systems and humans interact. The course will utilise your Maths and problem-solving skills alongside discussion and extended research. This will help you become an independent thinker and learner so that by the time you get to your exams, you will be able to show your understanding of a range of opinions and be able to illustrate your answers with the case studies you have investigated.
Course Details
• In A level Geography, students will gain in-depth knowledge of physical and human geography, building on the content learnt at GCSE level.
• Physical geography will include water and carbon cycles, coastal systems and landscapes and ecosystems under stress.
• Human geography will include global systems and governance, changing places and resource security.
• The learner will also complete a fieldwork investigation that will be assessed as an independent
investigation.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
80% examination and 20% coursework (fieldwork investigation)
• Exam paper 1: 105 marks, 2 hours and 15 mins, 30% of overall grade.
• Exam paper 2: 105 marks, 2 hours and 15 mins, 30% of overall grade.
• Exam paper 3: 70 marks, 2 hours and 15 mins, 20% of overall grade.
• Non examination assessment – Independent Investigation: 70 marks, 20% of overall grade.
Entry requirements
Grade 4 in Geography OR Grade 4 in Maths if new to subject.
