Subject Choices: - You will need to select a minimum of 3 subjects to study and these can be a mixture of A Levels and BTECs with SEFA and MWBA in addition to your full time studies.

Course Summary

The Edexcel A Level Geography course is a progression from GCSE that aims to challenge and inspire students by teaching the global issues that are relevant to the students of today. The content includes new topics such as Water and Carbon Cycles and the issues of Human Rights and Health across the globe. The content will help to prepare students for both university and the world of work.

Field study has been integrated into all aspects of the course and culminates in an individual study which will contribute to 20% of the final grade, the other 80% being the exams sat in three papers.

Unit 1

• Tectonic Processes and Hazards

• Landscape Systems, Processes and Change: Coastal Landscapes

• The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity

• The Carbon Cycle and Carbon Insecurity

• Climate Change Futures

Unit 2

• Globalisation

• Shaping Places: Regenerating Places

• Superpowers

• Global development and connection: Health Human Rights and Intervention.

Unit 3

A synoptic paper that will make use of previous learning and consider one geographical issue. A resource booklet is provided with information and you will use this to answer questions related to different players, attitudes and actions, and futures and uncertainties

Unit 4

An independent investigation which must include data collected in the field. It must be based on a question or issue defined and developed by the student relating to any part of the specification.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

The assessment method is through exam and coursework. Paper 1 and Paper 2 each last 2 hours and 15 minutes and are worth 30% each of the overall grade. Paper 3 lasts 2 hours 15 minutes and is worth 20% of the overall grade. The coursework is between 3000-4000 words on a fieldwork investigation and will contribute 20% of the final grade.
