Entry Requirements: - Admission to Towers Sixth Form to study A levels or BTEC equivalent will be awarded on the basis of GCSE performance. Each subject has its own entry requirements.

Course Summary
A Level Geography opens up a multitude of opportunities to explore to greater depth, the Human, Physical and Environmental factors that are shaping our world today. A Level Geographers and graduates are highly sought after according to the Royal Geographical Society - those who study the subject have some of the highest rates of employment.
Course Details
In this Geography A Level, you will study both physical geography and human geography and learn about the human, physical and environmental factors that shape our world today.
For Physical Geography, you begin the course studying Tectonic Processes and Hazards, focusing on primary tectonic hazards (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions) and secondary hazards (tsunamis). Our second focus is Coastal Landscapes and Change; we will explore how coastal landscapes are different and what causes these differences. In Year 2, you will study both the Carbon and Water Cycles.
For Human Geography, you begin the course studying Globalisation, including the processes that have led to increased globalisation, as well as its characteristics, impacts and consequences. Our second focus is Regeneration, including its characteristics, processes and impacts. In Year 2, you will study Superpowers, looking at the changing patterns of power and then Health, Human Rights and Intervention.
As part of this A Level Geography course, you will go on two field trips:
1) For the Human Geography part of the course, we will visit Margate to study the effectiveness of Margate’s regeneration and the public perceptions towards the regeneration project.
2) For the Physical Geography part of the course, we will go on a residential trip to Dorset at the end of Year 12. We will explore the Dorset coastline and visit Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
80% examination and 20% NEA (coursework):
● Paper 1: 2hrs 15 (30%)
● Paper 2: 2hrs 15 (30%)
● Paper 3: 2hrs 15 (20%)
● NEA: Independent Investigation linked to fieldwork (20%)

Grade 5 in Geography and English.

A Level Geography is one of the Russell Group Universities’ facilitating subjects. Studying for an A Level in Geography will open many doors for you. You may wish to go to university for a BA (Hons) Geography, which will focus on human geography and how societies interact with the environment, or a BSc (Hons) Geography which will focus on the science of the natural physical world. Geography can also unlock a wealth of career opportunities, including: cartographer, environmental consultant, town planner, commercial surveyor and the armed forces.
