Course Summary

This course is equivalent to one A Level and is for students who are interested in learning about the Health and Social Care sector alongside other fields of study. You will need to be prepared to research and work independently.

Course Details

This course consists of 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are externally assessed.

Students will learn about the following topics:

• Human Lifespan and Development – PIES and factors affecting growth and development, interventions and the different professionals providing care and treatment

• Human Biology and Health – Human body structure and systems, normal physiological functioning and the impact of common disorders

• Health and Social Care Practice – Core principles, values and legislation that underpin and influence health and social care, and the effect of social determinants on an individual’s health status.

Students will also develop transferable skills such as professional values and skills expected of professionals, including communication and listening skills; organisational and critical thinking skills; cultural and social intelligence when working with individuals across the lifespan with different needs, alongside methods of managing challenging situations.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are 2 externally assessed examinations and 2 internally assessed units of coursework. All units of work need to be completed and passed in order to gain a qualification.

Grade 4 in a Social Science Subject OR Grade 4 in English if new to the subject
