Course Summary

Students who study History have access to a wide range of career and higher education opportunities. They will have learned how to evaluate and analyse information, how to weigh up evidence and how to communicate complex ideas effectively. These skills are recognised and valued by employers, universities and colleges. History compliments many courses such as philosophy and ethics; sociology; and english. The Department teachers are specialists in the areas they teach, and can therefore support students to attain the highest grades.

Course Details

The A Level History qualification is studied across two years. In the first year students study:

Unit 1: Britain 1625-1701 - Conflict, Resolution and Settlement;

Unit 2: Russia in Revolution 1894-1924

Unit 3: Germany 1871-1990 - United, Divided and Reunited.

Each of these units are examined at the end of Year 13 in a written examination. Periods will be split between each of the three topics across the two years.

In Year 13, students will also complete the coursework unit focused on the Cold War. They will have three lessons each fortnight for this.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Exam and controlled assessment
