Course Summary
This is a two year course which will result in a single A Level. This can be taken in a combination with other level 3 courses (including A level and vocational).
If taken, students will need to choose two other level 3 qualifications and will be requested to do our mandatory enrichment programme. This programme covers a range of different employment skills, other qualifications and experiences that students can use for their post 18 destinations including the Extended Project Qualification (useful for additional UCAS points and developing research skills).
Course Details
Paper 1: Option 1E: Russia, 1917–91: from Lenin to Yeltsin (Year 12) 30%
Paper 2: Option 2E.1: Mao’s China, 1949–76 (Year 12) 20%
Paper 3: British Experience of Warfare (year 13) 30%
Students study one topic which covers at least 100 years, e.g. The British experience of warfare c1790–1918.
Unit 4: Controlled Assessment (year 13) 20%
Students complete an independently researched enquiry on historical interpretations, e.g. the origins of WW1 or origins of the Cold War.

80% Examination; 20% Coursework
Entry requirements
Grade 6 or above in GCSE history and grade 5 or above in GCSE English.
Alternatively, for students who have not previously studied GCSE history, a grade 6 or above in GCSE English is required.
