Entry Requirements - Admissions into LAE6 are based on candidates successfully meeting our entry requirements of at least five good passes in GCSE subjects (grade 4 or above), including at least a grade 4 in Maths and English, and grade 6 or better in the subjects they wish to study.

Course Summary

Psychology is primarily a science subject that also demands many skills essential in humanities. It can therefore be regarded as a bridge between the two disciplines. If you are interested in exploring human behaviour through a range of explanations or perhaps gaining a greater level of insight with regards to yourself and those around you then Psychology may well be for you.

Course Details

Core Topics:

Biological Approach: Brain function, neurotransmission, and genetics.

Cognitive Approach: Memory, perception, and decision-making.

Sociocultural Approach: Social identity, cultural norms, and group dynamics.

Options (Choose One):

Abnormal Psychology: Understanding mental disorders.

Developmental Psychology: Human growth and development.

Health Psychology: Psychological aspects of health and illness.

Psychology of Human Relationships: Interpersonal relationships and social interactions.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Internal Assessment (20%):

A mathematical exploration that allows students to investigate an area of interest.

External Assessment (80%):

Paper 1 (HL/SL): No calculator allowed; focuses on core topics (2 hours for HL; 1.5 hours for SL).

Paper 2 (HL/SL): Calculator allowed; covers core topics with more complex questions (2 hours for HL; 1.5 hours for SL).

Paper 3 (HL only): Focuses on problem-solving and investigation (1 hour).

Successful students will have a strong interest in mathematics and a desire to understand the world through mathematical concepts. They should be independent learners with good analytical skills and an ability to think logically.

Entry requirements

Admissions into EA6 are based on candidates successfully meeting our entry requirements of at least 5 good passes in GCSE subjects (grade 4 or above). This includes achieving at least a grade 4 in Maths and English. If there are any specific grade entry requirements for this subject, they will be listed below.

Psychology: 5 in English language or 5:5 in science.
