Course Summary
You may be considering joining the Information Technology industry as a software developer, computer games designer, data modelling consultant etc. This course and the skills you will learn are an excellent foundation for these careers or indeed a higher education course in this subject area.
The National Extended Certificate is intended as an Applied General qualification which is equivalent in size to one A Level. Students will develop a core of IT knowledge and study areas such as hardware and software in IT systems, managing and processing data to support business and using IT to communicate and share information.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Examination and coursework: 2 x exams on creating a database and Information Technology Systems. 2x coursework units on Using Social Media in Business and Website Development
33% - Information Technology Systems(Written Examination)
Students study the role of computer systems and the implications of their use in personal and professional situations.
17% - Website Development (Coursework Project)
Students will develop an understanding of the principles of website development, design a website to meet client requirements and will develop a website to meet client requirements.
Entry requirements
Grade 4 in both English and Maths GCSEs, and at least 3 other qualifications at grade 4 or above.

The course will prepare students for higher education in the area of IT, or as a complementary subject for a range of other higher education courses. This course would develop transferable skills including; reading technical texts, effective writing, analytical skills, creative development, independent learning, effective researching and presentation skills.
This course would also develop employability skills such as; problem-solving, critical thinking, communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation, self-management, resilience and selfmonitoring.
