Course Summary

The Information Technology qualification offers students an exciting and practical insight into the dynamic and ever-evolving world of IT. Throughout the course, you will explore how technology shapes the modern world — investigating the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, global information flow, and the vital importance of data security and legal considerations in today’s digital landscape.

Course Details

This course is designed to equip you with real-world knowledge and technical skills that are highly valued by universities and employers alike. You’ll learn through a combination of hands-on projects, research tasks, and scenario-based activities that mirror challenges faced in the IT industry.

Students will also specialise in one of four exciting pathways (chosen based on majority interest within the group):

  • IT Infrastructure Technician – Learn how to design, build and maintain computer networks that power businesses worldwide.
  • Data Analyst – Develop skills to collect, analyse and interpret data to support informed decision-making.
  • Emerging Digital Technology Practitioner – Experience cutting-edge technologies like virtual and augmented reality used in gaming, design and digital media.
  • Application Developer – Design and develop applications from concept to prototype for any purpose or platform.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

2 externally assessed examinations at the end of the course. Three units are internally assessed and externally moderated coursework units.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 or above in Mathematics and English An IT related qualification at Grade 5 or equivalent (e.g. GCSE in Creative iMedia at an M2 grade)
