Course Details
An A Level in Geography opens the door to valuable skills and opportunities for the future. You’ll become proficient in critical thinking, research, and data analysis. The ability to understand and explain complex processes, both natural and human, is highly prized across many careers. Whether you’re interested in environmental management, urban planning, or international development, A Level Geography equips you with the tools to succeed. It’s not just about maps and places—it’s about understanding how the world works and how to address some of its biggest challenges.
Beyond the classroom, you'll participate in fieldwork projects, such as coastal erosion studies and urban redevelopment assessments. You’ll gain practical experience in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), mapping software, and other analytical tools. There are opportunities to take part in geography-related trips, workshops with university geographers, and even debates on environmental policy.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed through 4 components.
Competent 1 focuses on changing landscapes such as coasts and changing places like London and Mumbai.
Component 2 examines the water and carbon cycle, processes and patterns of global migration and global governance and 21st century challenges.
Component 3 looks at tectonic hazards and contemporary themes in geography such as economic growth and challenge in an African context.
Component 4 is a written investigation where you’ll conduct independent research based on fieldwork. You choose a topic of personal interest, gather data, and produce a written report of 3,000-4,000 words.
