Course Summary

This is a T Level course and is the equivalent to the size of three A levels. The 2-year course has been developed with employers so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares you for the world of work. It is 80% classroom based and 20% industry placement.

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector.

Core Component

Understanding the education sector, Child development, Supporting children, Safe guarding, Managing behaviour, Equality & diversity, SEN & disability, English as an additional language, Working with parents carers wider families, Working with agencies and Reflective practice and other forms of Professional development.

Occupational Specialisms (one of the following)

Early Years Educator

Assisting Teaching.


Course Details

T Levels are the gold standard vocational course, and a high-quality alternative to A levels. They are a recognised qualification for all Universities and Employers. One T Level is worth the same UCAS points as three A levels,

T Levels combine class-based learning with an industry placement, giving you the chance to get hands-on experience and learn what a real career is like while you continue your studies.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

T Levels are assessed through a combination of exams, coursework and completion of your industry placement. Assessments will take place at the end of each year.

Year 1 - The core component will be externally assessed by one core exam, with two papers.

There will be an Employer-set project covering core skills and knowledge. This is externally-set, marked and moderated = 40%

Year 2 – Occupational Specialism Each occupational specialism assessment, will comprise of a practical assignment based on an overarching project it is externally set and marked.


Entry requirements

There is no nationally set entry requirements for starting the T Level. However, there is a requirement for students to work towards the attainment of Maths and English if not already achieved grade 4 at GCSE.



Your next steps...

The T level Technical qualification in Education and Childcare meets the Early years Educator Criteria and has been recognised and approved by the Department for Education.

There is a wide range of progression routes after completing this course. This could include going to University, Higher-level Apprenticeships and Employment. You can progress into roles such as: Nursery worker, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, Playworker and Portage home visitor.
