Course Summary

Our ‘LEAP’ courses prepare students with the skills and expertise that they need to leap into vocational studies in the wider College. Studying with us means all learners experience College life whilst building confidence and gaining the skills and qualifications required for their progression. There’s also a one day a week work placement that supports growth in a real working environment. Learning is tailored to the individual, with personalised targets and structured support that enable students to progress towards further study.

Course Details

Our ‘LEAP’ courses focus on a curriculum which gives learners the skills they need for further study. The curriculum’s focuses include: • Preparation for work • Independent living skills • Teaching to improve Maths • Teaching to improve English Students also undertake a work experience placement one day per week, either in College or with an external partner. All placements help to develop teamwork, communication and employability skills, in addition to exploring which areas the learner would like to go into. Once a term we set new individualised targets to monitor and review progress in all areas.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Students will create a portfolio of evidence to support their progress throughout the course. Assessment is through a range of methods and can be discussed further upon application.

Your next steps...

This course can lead to students progressing into the vocational College curriculum at Level 1 or 2 in several departments, as well as going onto a supported internship. Andrea studied our LEAP course and now has the skills and confidence to explore her next steps: “I’ve got to know people from across the College during my work placement in the Tuck Shop. This has enabled my communication skills to really improve, alongside my studies of Maths, English, Catering and Art. “Studying here is great as I have a good relationship with my teachers and College is helping me look into career options and what I’d like to do as a dream job.”
