Course Summary

Improve your English skills with a one-year, full-time ESOL course for students aged 16-18.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses are designed for people living or working in the UK whose first language is not English. Students can be asylum-seekers, refugees or come from settled communities.

This course teaches English speaking, listening, reading, writing, and understanding, while developing practical skills in areas such as maths, IT, and vocational subjects as well as providing work experience opportunities.

An assessment is held prior to the start of the programme and students enrol on to the level according to their ability.

  • Understanding

This full time ESOL study programme also includes activities in a range of areas alongside English, such as:

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed based on personal targets, through coursework and exams.

Entry requirements

This course is your first step into college education, helping you get a job or start a traineeship. As part of this course, you'll get extra help with your English and maths, making you more ready for work and allowing you to move on to a Level 2 course if you choose to. To join this programme, you will need to show that you can reach Level 1 in English and maths by the end of the course. This will be checked through an assessment during your interview.

Your next steps...

ESOL students progress through Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3, and can then progress onto any of our vocational courses in the wider College.
