Course Summary
The Maidstone Rugby Club & Cornwallis Academy Rugby Academy is an exciting new two-year programme launching in September 2026 for students currently in Years 11 and 12.
Delivered through a partnership between Maidstone Rugby Club and Cornwallis Academy, the academy is designed to provide ambitious young rugby players with the opportunity to combine high-quality education alongside elite rugby development.
The programme aims to develop students both academically and athletically through professional coaching, competitive fixtures, strength and conditioning support, and leadership opportunities within rugby.
Students will study their chosen post-16 qualifications at Cornwallis Academy whilst participating in a structured rugby performance environment that supports progression into senior rugby, university sport, coaching, or careers within the sports industry.
Course Details
Students enrolled on the Rugby Academy programme will benefit from:
- Weekly rugby coaching and training sessions

- Strength and conditioning programmes
- Performance analysis and video review
- Nutrition, recovery, and injury prevention education
- Leadership and teamwork development

The programme is designed to complement students’ academic studies and provide a balanced approach to education and athletic performance.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Students will be assessed through a combination of:
- Ongoing practical rugby performance
- Training attendance and commitment
- Player development reviews
- Strength and conditioning progress
- Tactical understanding and game awareness
- Leadership and teamwork contributions
- Academic progress within their chosen courses
Players will receive regular feedback and support to help them achieve both their sporting and academic goals.
Entry requirements
Applicants should:
- Be currently in Year 11 or Year 12
- Have a strong interest and commitment to rugby
- Demonstrate a positive attitude towards both sport and education
- Successfully attend and participate in the Rugby Academy trial session
- Meet Cornwallis Academy post-16 entry requirements for their chosen course of study
Rugby playing experience is preferred, although students with strong athletic potential and enthusiasm for development are encouraged to apply.
