Entry Requirements: Minimum entry requirements are 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, which MUST include English Language and Mathematics, plus any additional individual subject requirements.

Course Summary

The Mathematics A Level course covers Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The syllabus is divided in a simple 2:1 ratio of pure to Applied content.

Course Details

The Pure Mathematics elements of the course include algebra, geometry, calculus, series and trigonometry.

The Applied Mathematics elements are split between Statistics and Mechanics. Statistics is the study of the collection, presentation and analysis of data.

Mechanics is a study of the mathematics of movement, including Newton’s laws of motions, the formulae concerned with acceleration, velocity and displacement, vectors and force diagrams. It will be examined through three examination papers at the end of Year 13. There will be two Pure Mathematics papers and one Applied Mathematics paper. High levels of problem-solving and mathematical logic will be required throughout the course.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements: Grade 4 in English Language and Maths together with 3 other GCSE grades at grade 4 or above is the minimum requirement to enter Hillview Sixth Form.

SUBJECT SPECIFIC CRITERIA:

Grade 7 or above in GCSE Mathematics. Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language. APS of 5.5 or above.
