Course Summary

A Level mathematics is a qualification which allows students to build on their learning from GCSE to tackle more complex and interesting problems. The course is two thirds pure and 1 third applied, the latter being a mixture of statistics and mechanics. In pure, you will build on your knowledge of algebraic concepts, coordinate geometry, trigonometry and be introduced to calculus for the first time. The statistics section of the course features hypothesis testing, which is the underlying foundation of all academic analysis as well as diving deep into the normal distribution. In Mechanics, you will learn how to solve dynamic physical problems and be introduced to Newton's three laws of motion. Examinations take place at the end of the two year course and cover all material taught during that time, there are two pure papers and one applied, all out of 100 marks.
