Course Summary

The Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A-Level

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Music Performance is intended for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the music sector or the creative sector as a whole. The programme gives a broad overview of the sector, with a focus on performance, including musical skills development and professional practice.

The Extended Certificate carries UCAS points equivalent to one A-Level and will support entry to higher education courses in a wide range of disciplines


Course Details

Learners taking this qualification will study three mandatory units:

• Unit 1: Practical Music Theory and Harmony – 90 GLH

• Unit 2: Professional Practice in the Music Industry – 90 GLH

• Unit 3: Ensemble Music – 120 GLH

You will also choose one optional unit; either:

• Unit 6: Solo Performance – 60 GLH

• Unit 4: Composing Music – 60 GLH

Entry requirements

Grade 4-9 in GCSE Music (or Merit) and a good level of musical performance. Also, Grade 4-9 in English
