Entry Requirements: - Admission to Towers Sixth Form to study A levels or BTEC equivalent will be awarded on the basis of GCSE performance. Each subject has its own entry requirements.

Course Summary

Music is a very successful course at Towers Sixth Form and is key to your performing arts training. You will thrive on this course if you have a keen interest in music performance and are looking to improve understanding of the vital skills required to start a professional career in the industry.

During this course, you will study performance, technology, business and composition which will give you a strong understanding of all elements of the music business.

Students who study this course will have access to a variety of professional workshops and many music students take part in our annual school show, often in the leading role.

At the end of this two-year course, you will be awarded a subsidiary diploma which is equivalent to one and a half A levels.

Course Details

Students will complete two core units, one of which is externally assessed (33%) and one of which is internally assessed. The core units are:
Rehearsal and Performance (30 credits)
Planning a Career in Music (15 credits)
In addition, a number of other units will be chosen. Optional units have a value of 5, 10 or 15 credits and must add up to a total value of 90 credits.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed both externally and internally through performance and written assessment.

Entry requirements

BTEC Pass or Grade 3 in GCSE Music.
Have prior music experience.
Interview with the Performing Arts team for external students.

Your next steps...

Successful completion of this course would support a wide range of university progression on courses such as BA (Hons) Music Performance with Production, BA (Hons) Music and Music Psychology and BA Global Creative Industries. This course will also teach students transferable skills such as collaboration, creativity and understanding patterns that will lead to a wide variety of apprenticeship and full-time job roles.

Previous students have gone on to study BA (Hons) English Literature with Creative Writing and BA (Hons) Law and Philosophy. Current students are looking to complete musical theatre training and drama degrees.
