General Sixth Form Entry Requirements: - Minimum 4 GCSE passes at Grade 4 and above to study BTEC or vocational courses; 5 GCSE passes at 4 and above to study A level/BTEC combination; 5 GCSE's at Grades 5 and above to study straight A Levels.

Course Summary
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Performance (Musical Theatre) is a 360 guided learning hour (GLH) qualification, equivalent to 1 A Level. It provides an immersive experience into the performing arts sector, focusing on developing practical skills, creative exploration, and an understanding of industry practices. The course is structured to foster independent learning, critical thinking, and collaborative work, essential for success in higher education and professional environments. This subject must be studied alongside 2 other academic or vocational qualifications.
Course Details
The course is divided into two comprehensive learning and teaching modules, assessed through four mandatory assessment units:
Module A: Skills Development for Performing Arts Practice
Assessment Units:
A1: Exploring Performance Styles and Practitioners
A2: Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance
A3: Performing Arts Industry Knowledge
This module focuses on honing performance skills across various styles, understanding influential practitioners, and gaining insights into the workings of the performing arts industry.
Module F: Collaborative Performing Arts Project
Assessment Unit:
F16: Producing a Collaborative Project
In this module, students engage in a group project, applying their acquired skills to create and perform an original piece, simulating real-world collaborative processes.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is 100% internally assessed, utilising a variety of methods to evaluate students' progress and competencies:
- Practical Performances: Assessing the application of skills in live or recorded settings.
- Portfolios: Documenting the development process, research, and reflective practice.
- Presentations: Demonstrating understanding of theoretical concepts and industry knowledge.
- Collaborative Projects: Evaluating teamwork, creative input, and project management abilities.
These diverse assessment methods ensure a holistic evaluation of both practical and academic proficiencies.
Entry requirements
Applicants should have a strong interest in the performing arts and possess prior experience or qualifications in related subjects. While specific entry requirements may vary, a typical candidate would have:
- A minimum of four GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including English and a performing arts-related subject at Grade Merit or Distinction.
Prospective students may also be required to attend an audition or interview to demonstrate their suitability for the course.
