Course Summary

The Diploma takes 720 guided learning hours to deliver. This means it’s a similar size to two A levels. Taking the Diploma would give learners the skills for working in specific, specialised roles (e.g. Sports Coach and Personal Trainer) within the sport and physical activity sector.The Diploma takes 720 guided learning hours to deliver. Course Details

Units on the body systems and the long and short term impacts of sport and physical activity; how sport is organised and the purpose of sports development; health and safety requirements in sport and physical activity; the purpose of, and how to conduct research in sport and physical activity; and how businesses in sport are organised and what success looks like to them.

For the Sports Coaching specialist pathway learners must achieve:

 600 GLH from 9 mandatory units, and

 120 GLH from optional units

Three external assessments (exam paper),

the remaining units are coursework based, and are internally assessed.

Physical Education Physical Education Mandatory Units:

 Body systems and the effects of physical activity

 Sports coaching and activity leadership

 Sports organisation and development

 Working safely in sport, exercise, health and leisure

 Physical activity for specific groups

 Performance analysis in sport and exercise

 Organisation of sports events

 Sports injuries and rehabilitation

 Practical skills in sport and physical activities

Optional Units:

 Biomechanics and movement analysis

 Nutrition and diet for sport and exercise

 Health and fitness testing for sport and exercise

 Sport and exercise psychology

How will it be delivered and assessed?

A wide range of centre assessed units with practical and wider project based assessment opportunities, along with some examined units.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in both English and Maths GCSE, and at least 3 other qualifications at grade 4 or above.
