The BTEC Level Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) explores the world of performing arts by furthering your understanding of a range of performance skills and styles, but also allows you to focus on the essential techniques and disciplines needed for a career involved with professional dancing. The qualification will give you an insight into the different career pathways that someone interested in the performing arts may want to follow, and can help you to progress in an existing career or move on to further study.

The vocational context of this BTEC course is designed to be adaptable to your interests, abilities and aspirations. The course consists of external and internal assessment within a range of mandatory and specialist optional units. Compulsory units are designed to develop students understanding of the professional world of dance, where you will study and explore a range of professional repertoire via practical and theoretical study, develop a knowledge of dance techniques including contemporary, physical theatre and jazz dance and the process and production of group and solo choreography. The course not only develops you as a performer and choreographer but also as an analytical thinker and writer.

The complete award requires students to undertake 8 units of study for the Diploma A-level and 6 units for the Foundation Diploma A-level.

- Individual Performance Commission

- Final live performance to an audience

- Movement in performance

With the international recognition of BTEC courses, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a wider range of prospective careers that you can explore. For example: performing, choreographing, teaching and dance production.

The BTEC level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) has up to the equivalence of two GCE A-Levels, and it is possible for you to progress further in higher education, as successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications.

5 GCSE passes at grades 9-5, and a Grade 5 in GCSE English, or a Merit at BTEC Level 2
