Applications to Leigh Academy Minster’s Post-16 are managed through a system called Admissions+, powered by Applicaa. When using the portal for the first time, you will be prompted to self-register and create a user profile in order to complete the application. You will be required to supply your personal information, current place of education, predicted grades and then select your courses.

Entry Requirements: -

Admission to Level 3 programmes at Leigh Academy Minster is contingent upon strict entry requirements aimed at ensuring a high academic standard. These entry requirements are in place to guarantee that students entering Level 3 programmes are well-prepared and committed to the academic challenges and rigours associated with higher-level qualifications. Students will require five GCSEs at a grade 5 and above.

Prospective students are expected to have demonstrated a strong foundation in relevant Level 2 qualifications. All programmes have an entry threshold of at least a GCSE grade 5 or an equivalent qualification. Students wishing to study science and/or mathematics require a minimum GCSE grade 6 or higher. All students are expected to have achieved a Good or Strong Pass in English and mathematics.

You will have the opportunity to discover and deepen your own personal perspectives of fundamental questions about how people behave and why. You will consider a wide range of belief systems, some religious, others secular and reflect upon a variety of lifestyles both modern and historical. The knowledge and understanding gained from the course will form the foundation onn which you will build your philosophical and ethical arguments. Topics we study are; Political, Moral and Religious Philosophy, Reason and Experience, Free-will and Determination, Ideas of God, Metaphysics and Tolerance, the Individual and Society.How will I learn?Through discussion, group work and presentations you will gain the knowledge and understanding to write academic assignments. You will be expected to use different methods of ICT to research and communicate, and be prepared to think issues through to ensure a critical evaluation of all you learn.How will I be assessed?There will be regular submission of topic assignments and two, one and a half hour written examination papers. 5 A - C GCSE grades in different subjects, to include both English and Maths at grade C or above.

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Religious Studies, which could lead you onto higher education to study Theology or Religious Studies.With further training, you could go into a job related to Religious issues and Theology such as a Social Worker or Counsellor.You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in sectors where people are the main focus. The course will unlock opportunities both personally and professionally. Colleges and universities highly value the skills gained from studying philosophy and ethics at AS and A Level. Employers, from large corporations to the smallest business appreciate the qualities it helps to nurture.
