Course Summary

The qualification is designed for post-16 learners who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the creative industries, as part of a programme of study alongside other BTEC Nationals or A-Levels.


Course Details

Component 1: Personal Portfolio (60%)

Component 2: Externally Set assignment (40%)


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Presentation of portfolio (60%) and timed exam (40%).

Interests: Interests could be based in any of the following: media and advertising, fashion, journalism or design based work, fine art, photography, textiles, design, illustration, printmaking, graphics, sculpture, film and many more.

Personal attributes: Disciplined, passionate, adaptable, observant, original, imaginative, curiosity

Skills: Working independently, excellent communication and teamwork skills, enthusiasm to seek out new perspectives, creating and building on existing knowledge, being open to feedback and learning new skills, processes and techniques.


Entry requirements

5 x GCSE grades 9-4.

Employment: Artist Practitioner, Education, Psychology (Art Therapy), Photographer, Animator, Concept Artist (computer games and film), Graphic Designer.

University: Undergraduate or Foundation Degrees in a range of subjects, including: Photography, Graphic Design. Art and Design, Fashion, Fine Art, Designer, Architecture, Digital Art.

Higher Apprenticeships: 3D Design, Prop Making Essentials, Visual Merchandising, Qualified Tool Maker, Web Design.
